Imphal: The All Manipur Recognised Private Schools’ Welfare Association, Imphal-Manipur, (AMRPSWA) resolved on its 21st Private School Day Observation in 2024 that the Manipur Private School (Rules and Regulation) Act 2017 cannot be implemented in the state until the association’s demands are fulfilled.

The resolution was taken during the “21st Private School Day Observation, 2024” held on Monday at the Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, Imphal.

Speaking on the sidelines of the programme, the secretary of the association, Pukhrambam Romen Singh, said the association has been working for the welfare of privately run schools in Manipur on various issues from time to time. He mentioned that presently, almost all the private schools are suffering from huge monetary demands made by unknown elements.

Romen stated that during the programme, discussions on three different topics were conducted, including ‘disturbance-free education zone demand,’ ‘national education policy (NEP), 2020,’ and ‘private school rules and regulations Act, 2024’.

During the discussion session, it was resolved to appeal for an end to extortion by those making huge monetary demands from private schools. The state government should provide the new curriculum and syllabus of the New Education Policy, 2020, to the students by October.

It was also resolved to press the concerned authorities to provide teacher training programmes for private school teachers. Training in audio-visual classes should be given to private school teachers so that they can teach students easily by following the NEP, 2020.

During the programme, the association further resolved that the concerned authorities should start publishing textbooks for Classes III to VIII following the rules and regulations of NEP 2020. The textbooks should be published by SCERT-Manipur at the earliest.

Lastly, the meeting also resolved that the state government should not implement the Manipur Private School (Rules and Regulation) Act 2017 if the demands are not fulfilled. The association will seek assistance from the law court if the state government forcibly implements the act without fulfilling the association’s demands.19
