Imphal: Manipur MP to Lok Sabha Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has pushed the Union government to take stern action against communal devisive forces which have created havoc for the last fourteen months in the state.

Akoijam placed the demand drawing the attention of the House and government of India on the ongoing crisis in the state, in the Parliament, on Wednesday.

He said, peace effort has been made, there was an agreement between these two communities ( Meitei and Kuki) in Jiribam district on August 1 mediated by the security forces. “But unfortunately, suvburted by communal devisive and sectarian forces. They started attacking the village. The Government of India must take stern action against this divisive forces…”

The MP reminded the House that the Government of India has historical, political and moral and legal responsibility to defend Manipur as an entity that existed before the commencement of this Constitution as stated in the schedule of the constitution.

“In fact, the accession signed by the then Maharaja of the state on August 11, 1947, the Defence of the state was handed over to the Government of India, and therefore, the Government of India must take stern action against these divisive forces aided by the Forest elements. We need to take necessary steps to delineate the citizens from the non-ciizens, because, we have Foreign elements and Illegal immigrants which are creating havoc with these divisive elements within the state, the MP said.

He appealed to the House and Government of India to make it sure that the Article 19 works in this state, and people would have the capacity to move freely on National highways and territories within this country. It should not be restricted on community basis, he said.

The MP also demanded that the properties of the Internally Displaced people must be protected.

There has been images of houses being blown up and villages have been wiped out in order to suvbert the peace process. Once the village is destroyed one cannot go back, he said.
