Imphal: One CRPF jawan died, another CRPF jawan, two Manipur Police commandos and one Kuki Liberation Army (KLA) cadre were injured during a gun battle that took place on Sunday morning.
The CRPF jawan who died in incident was identified as Ajay Kumar Jha, 43, a resident of Bihar. He was hit on his forehead after a bullet that penetrated the glass of the CRPF vehicle that he was driving.
According to Jiribam Police, gunfiring was heard on Saturday late evening. There was no fire exchange.
A combined security forces, during a routine patrol on Sunday at around 9:30 am, were attacked by armed miscreants at Mongbung and Sejang villages in Jiribam district, around 7-8 km from Jiribam police station.
The combined security team retaliated, and during the incident, the CRPF jawan died.
In the incident, another CRPF jawan and two state police commandos sustained bullet injuries and were evacuated to Jiribam district hospital. The gunfight continued till around 11:30 am.
The search operation in and around Mongbung and Sejang was continued.
The injured KLA cadre was identified as Haoneithang Vaiphei alias Brucelee of Kangvai VII. He was critically injured, and was undergoing treatment at Silchar Medical Hospital, Assam.
KLA is one of Kuki militant groups in the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement with the India Government.
Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh has condemned the killing of the CRPF jawan. On X he posted, “I strongly condemn the killing of a CRPF personnel in an attack carried out by an armed group, suspected to be Kuki militants, in Jiribam district today. His supreme sacrifice in the line of duty shall not go in vain. I further extend my sincere condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased soldier, while praying for the speedy recovery of the ones injured during the during the attack.
