Manipur will have facility to find out sports anatomy: Minister Govindas

Imphal: DoNER ministry has almost approved a project of around Rs 20 crore to find out the anatomy of a child that suits sports, Youth Affairs and Sports minister K. Govindas said on Thursday

Govindas was speaking during a book release of “Pride of Manipur, Olympians and National Awardees of Manipur” held at Manipur University, Canchipur, here.

Sanasam Yaiphaba Singh; Bishnulatpam Birla Sharma and Shukhdeba Sharma Hanjabam wrote and complied the book.

The programme was jointly organised by Intellectual Forum of North East-Manipur; National Sports University; Manipur University; and Kreda Bharati, Manipur Prant.

Govindas said the government is putting its effort to produce more Olympians from Manipur.

Finding out the right anatomy of a sportsperson for its right event will be first of its kind in Manipur. All the sportspersons in junior level are excellent. However, the sportspersons are hard to compete in international arena due to lack of sports medicine and tactics, Govindas said.

He said the book will be kept at National Sports University and the authorities of the varsity will accept to do so.

The book highlighted brief information of 19 Olympians of Manipur as since 1990’s.
