Imphal: A CRPF bus was burnt down by a huge mob at Kangpokpi Bazar, Kangpokpi district, Manipur on Monday evening, amid the high level meeting on Manipur security situation held in Delhi.
The CRPF personnel were moving in a bus from Kangpokpi deputy commissioner office complex to Kangpokpi police station.
The bus bearing registration number MN 06 B 0463 was stopped by the mob at KPI bazar at around 8:30 am, alleging that the bus belongs to the Meitei community.
The information was received to police at around 9 pm.
Immediately, a police team rushed to the spot, however, the mob numbering about 2000 blocked the road and did not give a free passage to the police team. The bus was set on fire in few minutes, a police report said.
With additional police teams the irriate mob was dispersed and the vehcile was towed to safety location led by Kangpokpi police.
Amit Shah stressed on strategic deployment of central forces to restore peace and tranquility in Manipur, and said forces will be increased if required. He directed to take strict legal action against those who indulge in violence.
Security forces recovered arms and ammunitions from the foothills of Gangpijang hill ranges, Kangpokpi district, during a search operation on Sunday. The recovered items include one each of 7.62mm AK 56 assualt rifle, pt. 22 rifle, 12-inch single bore barrel gun, two improvised projectile launchers, one Chinese hand grenade, one country made hand grenade, one 51mm mortal and 15 rounds of live ammunitions.
Security forces have been conducting search operations and area domination in fringe and vulnerable areas of the state following the outbreak of Meitei-Kuki conflict.
