Imphal: National Highway 2 has been cut off as the bridge connecting Sapermeina and Koubru Laikha in Kangpokpi district of Manipur has been damaged by powerful bombs on early Wednesday morning.
Kuki militants were suspected to have triggered the blasts that damaged the bridge at three spots.
Several vehicles have been stranded on both sides of the bridge.
District administration, Kangpokpi has issued an order stating that there will be complete stoppage of all kind of heavy vehicular traffic on the minor bridge in Sapermeina at existing Ch.287-370 of NH 2 between Sapermeina and Koubru Laikha with immediate effect, till further orders, in order to avoid any untoward incident and to ensure safety of the general public and commuters.
“Light unladed and lighter passenger vehicle may pass through under strict regulation for the moment,” the order said.
Superintendent of police, Kangpokpi has been assigned to regulate the traffic from Sapermeina to Koubru Laikha until the alternate route work is completed.
Sub-divisional magistrate, Saitu-Gamphazol, shall be station at the location for the overall co-ordination and action until further orders, the order said.
NHIDCL has been instructed to depute team for the restoration and alternate route work.
