Imphal: Strongly condemning the killing of an SDPO at Indo-Myanmar border town Moreh in Tengnoupal district on Friday by unknown miscreant, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee has cited the incident as a big example of total failure of law and order in Manipur.
“How long the chief minister and cabinet ministers of this BJP government remain as silent spectators when Manipur has turned into a killing field?” Manipur PCC president Keisham Meghachandra asked.
The incidents in crisis that erupted on May till date shows the failure of law and order and non existence of a government in the state, he said, stating that the same statements are made from various sections, including the BJP itself, civil societies, political parties, institutions and people.
The Supreme Court of India had given its observation saying that Manipur government has totally failed in governance leading to occurrence of violence in the state, Meghachandra said.
The killing of SDPO Chingtham Anand (a Meitei) at Moreh is an example of having no government in hills of Manipur. The government keeps saying peace has returned in Manipur while it cannot send reinforcement of state forces to reach Moreh (a Kuki dominated area). Today, clearly showing failure of lawa and order, a courageous police officer was shot to death. It is very shocking, the Congress leader said.
The state government till today fails to utter a word of moral responsibility to the law and order failure. It is very unfortunate, he added.
It has failed to save the lives and properties in the state and fails to obey Constitution. In this almost six months long crisis in the state, the government has not yet taken up any positive initiative to restore peace in the state, Meghachandra said.
Manipur government termed the present turmoil in Manipur as narco-terrorism backed by foreign hands and merely not Meitei-Kuki conflict.
How long the unrest in Manipur continue? Life of state security force is not safe in this situation, Meghachandra said.
Officer Anand was shot by a sniper while on duty on Tuesday morning.
