Imphal: Decrying against the shooting of innocent people and goondaism, people staged rally at Sega Road, Imphal West along Tiddim road, and huge number of people and youths stormed at the residence of former president, Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Manoharmayum Barish Sharma.
Five persons were injured when armed miscreants wearing mask fired at the locals who were trying to stop from abducting one Khaidem Seitajit (Bobo), 38, son of late Kh. Momon Singh of Sega Road Konjeng Hajari Leikai, Imphal West.
The miscreants reportedly came in four 4-wheeler and two 2-wheeler at around 10.40 pm on Saturday and forcibly entered at the residence of Seitajit.
Police recovered some empty cases of 9mm, 0.32 mm and 0.45mm bullets.
Members of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed against the firing, along with locals of Sega Road and volunteers of Youth of Manipur participated in the protest demonstration.
Shooting and threatening people at gunpoint is highly condemnable. In the act of goondaism those miscreants opened fire to the public injuring 5 people including one woman, a protesting woman said.
Convenor of the JAC, Chongtham Iboyaima said the act of those armed miscreants are attempt to murder innocent people and the government should dealt with them seriously.
Barish is reportedly behind the crime and government should book him immediately along with those accused who were directly involved in the incident, Iboyaima said.
The state police have arrested two persons involved in the incident. They have been identified as one Ningombam Alex, 24, and Gurumayum Rayban, 27 both from Bhramapur Laljilakpa Leikai, Imphal East.
The JAC members, locals of 15 local clubs of Sega Road area along with volunteers of Youth of Manipur stormed at the residence of Manoharmayum Barish Sharma located at Wangkhei Angom Leikai, Imphal East.
The mob asked Meira Paibi of Wangkhei Angom Leikai to announce their stance on the issue.
After discussion, Wangkhei Angom Leikai Meira Paibi announced that social boycott of Barish.
As the mob demanded, the family members of Barish accepted to bear the expenses for treatment of the victims.
The JAC, locals and youths demanded that Barish Sharma should clarify to the people about the incident and state police should arrest him within two days.
According to BJYM Barish is no more with the party. An order issued and signed by general secretary BJP Manipur Pradesh L. Deben Singh on March 17, 2023, mentioned that “as directed by Smt. A Sharda Devi, Respected State President, BJP Manipur Pradesh, Shri Manoharmayum Barish Sharma is relieved from all activities of BJYM, Manipur Pradesh with immediate effect.”
At present Deshraj Yumnam has been taking state president in-charge, BJYM Manipur Pradesh after Manoharmayum Barish Sharma was relieved from the activities of the party.
