Imphal: Six arms, 29 ammunitions and two explosives were recovered from Thoubal, Kangpokpi and Tengnoupal districts of Manipur on Saturday.
The arms and ammunitions were recovered when security forces conducted operations in the fringe and vulnerable areas of lmphal West, Bishnupur, “Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi and Thoubal districts.
During the last 24 hours, the situation in the state was tense with sporadic incidents of tiring and congregation of protestors, Manipur Police Control Room said.
It said three members of an underground outfit were arrested and remanded to police custody for six days.
Public rallies were carried out at Churachandpur, Tengnoupal and Kangpokpi in connection with the present law and order situation. The rallies concluded peacefully, the police control room said.
A total of 125 checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and police detained 1548 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state, it added.
Movement of 300 vehicles along NH-37 and 167 vehicles along NH-2 with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, it said.
The police department appeals to general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. Any circulation of unfounded videos etc may be confirmed from the rumour free number – 9233522822 of Central Control room.
It also appeals to public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
Arms were allegedly looted by civilians during the ongoing Meitei-Kuki clash that erupted on May 3.
