Imphal: Around 40 abandoned houses and shops at Indo-Myanmar border Town Moreh belonging to Meitei community were torched by Kuki on Wednesday.
There were no one in the buildings as the Meitei have fled during the past Kuki attacks.
Reports said the clash took place between the Kuki civilians and the armed forces in the Moreh town of Manipur’s Tengnoupal district.
At around 8:30 am members of the Kuki Women Union and Human Rights of Moreh made five groups at Moreh and allegedly torched around 40 houses at five different locations.
When police tried to stop the women burning the houses armed Kuki militants appeared on the spot.
The state forces reportedly started firing against the Kuki militants who attack the state forces. Later the central security forces joined the cross-firing.
The cross-firing between security forces and Kuki militants took place at around 11 am that lasted till around 4: 30 pm.
Incessant cross-firing was reported till late afternoon.
A combined team of 5 Assam Rifles, Moreh Police commando and BSF were cross-firing with Kuki militants which includes KNA and PDF of Myanmar, a source said.
Casualty report could not collected till the filing of this report.
