State wide 48 hours general strike imposed by All Manipur Fire Service Candidates and Guardian Association remained ineffective today while the indefinite general strike imposed by the Thoubal District MP Candidature Demand Committee in Thoubal and Kakching districts was suspended.
The 48 hours strike called by the candidates and guardian association was launched in the midnight (12 am) today after it took the decision in a meeting yesterday. The candidates spearheaded by the association have demanding to declare the recruitment result.
Members of the association complains that following a notification issued to recruit 126 posts of firemen, drivers, mechanics and sweepers in November 2014, the process of recruitment began immediately. More than one thousand candidates applied for the jobs. However, the result was kept on hold.
Strike supporters who came out in the early morning at few places in Imphal burnt tyres to block roads at Uripok and Singjamei area in Imphal. However, police cleared them up and bandh supporters were vanished. The general strike could not affect the normalcy of the state. All establishments remained busy. However few schools in Imphal were closed for fear of any outcome.
Chief minister Nongthombam Biren Singh while talking to the reporters yesterday at his office said legal action will be taken against those who call bandh or blockade and they will not be spared.
The indefinite general strike that began yesterday by the Thoubal District MP Candidature Demand Committee in Thoubal and Kakching districts was called off, effective from 12 pm today.
The strike was suspended for some time to ease the grievances faced by the people due to strike, said a member of the demand committee that was demanding to select a representative for the vacant seat at Rajya Sabha from the eight assembly segments covered by the outer parliamentary constituency which reserves for schedule tribes.
