High Court Bar Association of Manipur today staged a sit-in protesting against the contemplated appointment of advocate general, Manipur from outside the state.
The sit-in was held at the premises of the state High Court, which demanded appointment of a local as the advocate general.
HCBAM president Kh. Binoykumar Singh yesterday said it was learnt that the advocate general of the state will be given to an advocate from Andhra Pradesh who is not a designated advocate.
Appointing a person as AG who does not know the local language and the ground situation of the state will not be help bringing a better Manipur. At the same time it also violates the constitution said Binoykumar.
He said that though the state has lots of designated senior advocates, appointment of advocate general from outside state is not fair.
If the state government does not give positive and desirable step by 1 pm of April 21, the association will take up further course of action, cautioned the president
