Imphal: The Swarnim Vijay Mashaal (Golden Victory Flame) commemorating 50 years of India’s victory over Pakistan in 1971, which began its journey from the National War Memorial, New Delhi flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 16, 2020, has reached the Laitkor Garrison of the Directorate General of Assam Rifles Headquarters at Shillong on August 2.
The flame was handed over by Satya Pal Malik, the governor of Meghalaya to Lt Gen PC Nair, AVSM, YSM girector deneral Assam Rifles at the governor house and thereafter it commenced its journey to the Laitkor, Garrison.
As part of the celebrations the Assam Rifles organised a victory run of 5 km at Laitkor garrison which was attended by all ranks and families of the force followed by a special programme where the young and enthusiastic participants were given details of the Indian Army’s historic victory in the 1971 war and purpose of victory flame.
The victory flame will continue its journey thereafter from Laitkor to the 101 Area for next phase of celebrations.
