Imphal: An interim president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee likely to be announced on Thursday noon, the resignation of Govindas Konthoujam as MPCC president is yet to be approved, All India Congress Committee (AICC), in-charge Manipur, Bhakta Charan Das, said on Wednesday.
Das was speaking to media on his arrival at the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport here on Wednesday.
Responding to media for the purpose of his visit to Imphal, Das said his visit was to discuss the organisational matter ahead of the coming Manipur Assembly Elections next year.
He confirmed that Govindas has submitted for his resignation from the post of president Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee.
He said the high command of AICC seriously consider the submission of Govindas’s resignation from the post of president MPCC. The approval of his resignation will be discussed with congress MLAs and PCC leaders however, the act of Govindas is indisciplined and AICC will not tolerate with his indiscipline act, he added.
He said the president post is a very responsible post for the party and any person of the party who is at the position should be responsible.
No Congress MLA has demanded to change the position of Congress Legislative Party leader and at present there is not issues in the party organisation.
He said Congress government will return in the next term in the state.
Manipur PCC, MLA, K Meghachandra said the resignation letter of MPCC president was submitted to AICC leader, Sonia Gandhi. He tendered his resignation on individual matter but not in issue with organisational matter and not in the issue of Manipur CLP leadership.
He said a new interim MPCC president is likely to be announced on Thursday at 11: 30 am at the party office.
If the resignation of MPCC is approved then any senior member could be appointed at his place, Meghachandra said.
