Imphal: Most of the ongoing tourism projects in Manipur will soon be inaugurated once the situation of Covid-19 is under control.
This was said by tourism minister Oinam Lukhoi Singh as he inspected various projects taken up by the tourism department in Bishnupur district on Saturday.
The government is continuously working towards boosting the tourism sector of the state by preserving the major historical sites of the state, the minister said.
MLA P. Sharatchandra Singh, tourism additional chief secretary P. Vaiphei, tourism director Ibohal Singh and concerned officials of the department were present during the inspection.
The ministerial team inspected the ongoing construction work of underground parking and its components located near the INA Martyrs’ Memorial Complex. They visited the then INA headquarter’s building which still stands bearing the brunt of machine gun fires and bomb splinters during the World War II.
Lukhoi informed that as part of developing the INA site as a major tourist hub, the state government under the leadership of chief minister N. Biren Singh are in the process of preserving the land and houses where the bombs fell during the World War II in Manipur as historical site. The INA Martyrs’ Memorial complex at Moirang is a war memorial dedicated to the soldiers of the Indian National Army. He expressed deep gratitude to the land owner for still preserving the house in its originality till date.
