Imphal: One special commando personnel of Rengpang police out-post was injured in an ambush by unknown armed miscreants suspected to be militants on Wednesday evening.
The injured personnel named as rifleman Sachikumar received minor bullet injury on his left side of abdomen.
The incident occurred at about 3.30 pm while the special commando personnel were going for ROP as daily routine along Imphal Jiribam national highway near Rengpang police out-post which falls under the jurisdiction of Nungba police station.
Some unknown armed miscreants started shooting towards the personnel from an elevated area. The personnel also fired back some rounds towards the direction of the miscreants.
The injured has been transported to Imphal for further treatment.
Later a special commando team along with a team of Imphal East Police left for Rengpang this evening.
Sources said cordoned and search operation has been conducted in the surrounding areas where the incident took place.
