Imphal: Transporters and Drivers’ Council (TDC) urged state government addressing Chief Minister and Chief Secretary to take up vaccination programme for drivers and transporters who are transporting essential commodities in the state.
President of TDC, Ranjit urged the state government by sending letters addressed to chief minister and chief secretary on Tuesday.
Ranjit said all the transport drivers who are transporting essential commodities along the state and national highways need to be recognised as frontline workers. In addition to that the state government should start vaccination programme for them immediately.
He said if the transport drivers cease their work with the fear of COVID infection while transporting essential commodities then the state could face severe problem in the next future.
Ranjit further said the state government should take necessary measures for the transport drivers for their treatment and for isolation centres if they get tested of COVID-19.
He said amid the increasing rate of COVID victims, state government need to take up immediate measures to start up vaccination programme for the highway transporters in order to motivate them. The transport drivers should follow strict SOPs and guidelines to prevent from the virus infection.
