Deputy chief minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh today launched a two-day Farmers’ Fair cum Exhibition at ICAR complex, Lamphelpat which was organized by ICAR-KVKs of Chandel, Churachandpur, Imphal West, Tamenglong and Ukhrul in collaboration with ICAR-RC for NEH Region, Manipur Centre under the sponsorship of TSP, ICAR-RC for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya.
Y. Joykumar stressed the need to make agriculture an organized sector through participatory approach and highlighted that majority of the population is dependent on agriculture and allied activities for livelihood sustenance. He emphasized the need to promote agro-based industries in the State so as to improve the overall economy of the State. He assured possible assistance to the efforts of ICAR and CAU towards promotion of agriculture sector in the State.
The inaugural day session included presentation of critical farming inputs to selected farmers of the five districts —Chandel, Churachandpur, Imphal West, Tamenglong and Ukhrul — and farmers-scientists’ interaction. Besides attending the event, farmers from different parts of the State put up various agri-products on display at the exhibition.
