Smuggled timber worth Rs 64 lakh recovered

Imphal: Assam Rifles on Friday recovered smuggled timber that would worth around Rs 64 lakh, in Ukhrul.

Acting on credible intelligence, troops of Assam Rifles intercepted one Shaktiman truck near Sangshak in Ukhrul District of Manipur at 10:20 am. On examination of the vehicle and it was found to be carrying 200 cubic feet of smuggled timber. The truck driver, identified as Zimik was detained. The assessed cost of smuggled timber was approximately Rs 64 lakh, Assam Rifles said.

The recovered timber along with the detainee were handed over to the Shangshak Police station for further investigation, it added.
