Imphal: One hockey astro turf each would be developed in all the 16 districts of the state at the earliest, Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh, who is also the patron-in-chief of Manipur Hockey, said on Saturday.
Biren declared this as he launches the official website of Manipur Hockey (www.manipurhockey.com) in a function held at Hotel Classic Grande, Chingmeirong in Imphal East on Saturday. The state government has been exploring different ways to develop sports in the state, Biren said.
He said flood lighting facilities had been installed both at Khuman Lampak main stadium and hockey stadium. He said Rs 50 lakh each had been provided to NEROCA-FC and TRAU-FC, which are playing men’s I-league. He said that similar amount would also be given to KRYPHSA-FC, which is playing Indian Women’s League, as well.
The chief minister also assured that grants would be provided to the clubs, which produce international players.
He also urged all the organizations including different sports associations of the state to stop indulging in groupism and infighting among themselves. Stating that they should work collectively and unitedly under one leadership instead of fragmenting their organization into different groups, he asserted that organizations should leave aside all forms of personal interests.
It is the right time to enhance performance and popularize the game when state native Gyanendro Ningombam is the president of India Hockey.
