Imphal: Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh said consultation is on with intellectuals and historians to engrave the history of different Kings of Manipur since 33 AD on the fencing wall of Maharaj Gambhir Singh Samadhi complex, Canchipur.
Biren made the statement while talking to reporters on the 187th death anniversary of Maharaj Gambhir Singh at the Samadhi on Saturday.
Biren Singh led ministers, MLAs, MPs, government officials and general public in offering floral tributes to the memorial and portrait of the king who spearheaded the war against Awa (Burmese) to end Seven Years of Devastation in 1826.
Later, a contingent of Manipur Rifles offered guard of honour, gun salute and sounded last post as a mark of respect to Maharaj Gambhir Singh, Meidingu Narasingh and all those, who laid down their lives in the war for the motherland.
Biren offered flowers at the statues of Maharaj Gambhir Singh, Meidingu Narasingh and Sana Herachandra. Later, he offered Tarpan and paid obeisance at Dhop Pala.
As of now, Biren said, two caretakers have been engaged to look after the complex. However, there is need for a committee to take care of the complex, he observed.
Regarding Dzuko inferno, the chief minister said the fire had been brought under control in almost all the areas on Manipur side. He said he had talked to Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio regarding reported obstruction by some people in the construction of road to Dzuko by the Government of Manipur.
Two base camps had been opened to accommodate firefighters as of now, he said while adding that engineers of Manipur Police Housing Corporation Ltd. had been deputed at the area to conduct a survey for the construction of a guest house. Public health engineering minister L. Dikho is regularly visiting the area to supervise all the matters related to Dzuko, he added.
Officials of tourism and art and culture departments had also been instructed to visit Maopungdong village to inspect whether another guest house can be constructed there, Biren said.
