Imphal: Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar called upon people of the State to nurture love for the motherland and work towards integration in the country.
Joykumar was speaking as the chief guest at the observance of the Quami Ekta Week (National Integration Week) this morning held at the Conference Hall, Old Secretariat in Imphal.
The Deputy Chief Minister remembered former Prime Minister late Smt. Indira Gandhi for her supreme sacrifices in bringing unity in the country. He said that with the week-long observance, we are remembering the then Prime Minister who faced all kinds of threats on the integration of the country and how she defeated the threats.
He said unity and integration of our people will make the country stronger. Irrespective of our caste, creed, religion or language we should not forget that we are one, he said adding that our country is known for our unity in diversity. Let us further understand our responsibility towards guarding these principles and maintain unity in our country.
Works/RD&PR/Com&Ind/IPR/AR&Trg. Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh in his presidential speech said that remembering the former Prime Minister on her birth anniversary alone is not enough, but we should imbibe her principles, ideals in bringing a unified nation.
He further recounted some of late Smt. Indira Gandhi’s achievement in bringing integration and unity in the country and how she motivated the people towards unity.
We are all responsible citizens of our motherland. Let us not just take a pledge on this day but inherit the ideas of unity and integration and educate our younger generations on why we are observing the day and why it is important, he said.
Biswajit also observed that one of the biggest achievements of the State government is bridging of gap between the hills and the valley under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.
He further called on the people to maintain communal harmony, peaceful coexistence and unity in the State as well as in the country.
Dy CM also administered the National Integration Pledge to all attending officials of the observation.
Today’s observance was also attended by Education Minister S.Rajen Singh, Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar, DGP LM Khaute other top Civil and Police officers and officials among others. (DIPR)
