Imphal: Minister for Social Welfare and Co-operation Henry Okram stated that there is a need to create awareness about the co-operative movement among the masses in the State. This was stated by him at the inauguration of 67th All India Cooperative Week 2020 held at the office of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Lamphelpat Imphal today.
Speaking as Chief Guest of the function, Henry Okram said that let us support and help each other to bring positive change and development in the Cooperative sector. He mentioned that we need to work at the grassroot level rather than focussing at regular desk work to bring visible change.
Henry further said that he has started site inspection of some of the Cooperative societies and would continue the inspection and review the status of various registered societies in the State. He urged the members of all registered societies to provide suggestions and feedback through any means of communication viz. through mobile phone among others to enhance the Cooperative movement in the state.
Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Manipur Valentina Arambam spoke on the important role played by the Cooperative societies during the pandemic in India by citing the exemplary roles undertaken by AMUL, IFFCO etc. We need capacity building, skilling the members of Cooperative societies in the State, she added.
During the function, various Weavers’ Cooperative Societies presented handloom and handicraft products to the Minister.
President Manipur State Cooperative Union L. Tompishak Singh, representatives of different Cooperative Societies and others were present during the function.
