Imphal: Kakching district police commando seized 6.037 kilogram of suspected World is Your (WY) tablets near Pallel police station from the oil tanker of a vehicle and arrested two drug carriers on Wednesday.
The arrestees have been identified as Buyamayum Aslam Khan, 24, son of Md Abdul Hakim of Keihaokhong, Thoubal and Md Azamir Hussian, 20, son of Md Jakir Hussian of Lilong Haoreibi Ubakthong Mathak, Thoubal.
Kakching district superintendent of police, Victoria Yengkhom in a press statementn said the police team conducted frisking and checking near Pallel police station gate following an intelligence information that some miscreants are smuggling drugs from Moreh (Indo-Myanmar border town in Manipur) to Imphal.
While conducting the frisking on Wednesday evening one Mahindra XUV 500 white in colour without registration number were seen heading towards Imphal from Moreh along the national highway. When the police team gave signal to stop for checking, the vehicle tried to escape from. However, the team managed to stop the vehicle and detained the driver and his companion by maintaining standard operating procedure (SOP) for verification, the senior police officer said.
During preliminary interrogation at the spot the two persons identified their identities and the vehicle was searched. As the vehicle need to be searched thoroughly including the internal parts as nothing was found on the external and inside the vehicle. The vehicle along with the companion were taken to a nearby workshop by the said police team located at Sumak Leikai, Lamdong, Kakching.
The suspected WY tablets weighing 6.037 kilograms were recovered concealed inside the fuel tank wrapped in four different polythene packets covered by a transparent polythene bag and other smaller five packets wrapped in black and light sky blue cloth that also covered by transparent polythene.
On further interrogation Jakir disclosed that he along with his companion had taken the consignment from one Ibecha of Moreh and it has to be handed over to one Dilip of Kalichowk in West Bengal.
Ibecha give them a sum of Rs 50,000 as carrying charge of the consignment told Jakir to the police team, the police stated.
The two persons along with the seizures were handed over to Kakching police station for further necessary legal action. A case has been registered under ND and PS Act.
