Imphal: Manipur Alliance for Child Rights has condemned sexual assault of a 3 and half years old minor girl at Moreh. In a press statement by MACR, it says the incident happened on 15th September and says that MACR has learnt that the victim’s family and the offender’s family are trying to cover up the incident by negotiating to settle it amicably.
MACR warns both the parties to refrain from such illegal practice and said that sexual assault to a minor girl attracts penalty of rigorous imprisonment for at least 20 years or life imprisonment or even death penalty under POCSO Act.
MACR appeals to community leaders to stop the illegal practice of settlement which promote private compromises and settlement without trial with the law of the land. Such practices will be an injustice to the victims and indirectly encourage such offenders to commit more crimes again without fear of legal penalties in future, it added.
It also appeal to the Moreh police to expedite investigation process, apprehend the offender at the earliest and stop such mutual settlement.
