Brown Sugar worth over Rs 2 crore recovered

Imphal: Assam Rifles recovered Brown Sugar worth Rs 2.14 crore at Khudengthabi on Monday morning.

The contraband item was recovered when troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (S) stopped a ‘suspicious’ Maruti Zen car (bown colour) bearing registration number WB 02 U 0775 driven by one Paukhanmang Guite, 34, son of  late C Guite of Kamkhang village, Churachandpur sub-division.

On thorough checking of the vehicle, the troops recovered 1.07 Kgs of Brown Sugar worth Rs 2.14 crore. The recovered items were being ferried to Imphal from Moreh, Assam Rifles said.

The detained individual and the recovered items have been handed over to Moreh Police for further investigation, it added.
