Imphal: The All Manipur Hill Districts MGNREGS Employees’ Association (AMHDMEA) has cautioned the state government that it would take up agitations from September 16 while demanding to regularise the employees of MGNREGS covering hill districts of Manipur at the earliest.
The employees association complains that only valley district MGNREGS employees were regularised in 2016. It expresses its disappointment to the state government for delaying in the service regularisation process.
It said it is surprising that no MGNREGS employees of hill districts have been regularised so far. There are 129 contract employees serving under Rural Development and Panchayati Raj department waiting for regularisation.
The association serves a deadline urging the state government to regularise the MGNREGS employees of hill districts of Manipur on or before September 15. “The government will be held responsible for the consequences,” it said.
The association is very optimistic about the government slogan “go to hill”. Failing to pay heed to the pleas of hill districts will invite unnecessary repercussion in the democratic form of agitations it added.
Publicity secretary of the employees association, Milton, said the MGNREGS scheme was first launched during the UPA government in 2006 incorporating 100 rural districts of India. In Manipur the scheme was first launched in Tamenglong district, a hill district in the same year.
“The association is disappointed with the state government for delaying in the service regularization process. Let justice prevail” Milton said. .
“The association has been running from pillar to post demanding regularisation of service. Memorandum and representations had been submitted to the authority but no concrete solution till date. The grievances of the poor MGNREGS employees (contractual) in remote hill districts are untold,” he added.
