Imphal: A 56-year old patient suffering from chronic kidney failure who was confirmed positive for COVID-19 on Sunday passed away on Wednesday at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal.
According to medical superintendent of RIMS, Prof. Ch. Arunkumar Singh, the cause of death was Chronic Kidney disease, Rt. Pyelonephritis with Urosepsis (Multidrug Resistant Klebsiella Pneumoniae) Bi-lateral lower Respiratory Tract Infection, COVID-19, Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus and Hypertension.
The deceased patient belonged to Khongjom Sapam of Thoubal district. He was admitted at the hospital on May 22 for Chronic Kidney Failure Type-V of long duration, Urosepsis (Multidrug Resistant Klebsiella Pneumoniae), Hypertension, Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus, Bi-lateral lower Respiratory Tract Infection. The patient had multiple sessions of dialysis, Prof. Arunkumar said.
“There has been a thorough screening for COVID-19 among the healthcare workers and patients of RIMS Hospital. The patient was found positive of COVID-19,” he added.
Despite intensive treatment, the patient succumbed to Kidney Failure, infection of Kidney and Lower Respiratory Tract. Patient had long standing Hypertension and Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus. COVID-19 is present recently, he said.
Ahead of the first casualty of COVID patient till Tuesday evening the cumulative number of positive cases was 2,317. The numbers of active and recovered cases were 702 and 1,615 respectively.
