Imphal: Penalties will be given to people who spit in public, Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh said while higjlighting a list of penalties for lockdown violation, during a press conference announcing 7-day total lockdown in the state that would be effective from Thursday 2 pm.
Biren said penalties will be given to those lockdown violators during the lockdown period; for violation of quarantine guidelines – Rs 1000, not wearing face masks in public places – Rs 200, violation of social distancing norms – Rs 200, spitting in public places Rs- 500, chewing of gudka, pan etc. – Rs 200.
He appealed to the people to take necessary precautions, abide the guidelines and protocols issued by the government to fight against the disease.
The chief minister was addressing the press conference at his secrerariat.
During the lockdown, curfew will be imposed throughout the state. Only essential services will be exempted during this period, he added.

Stating that the government is closely monitoring the situation from time to time, Biren mentioned that out of the total 2105 cases, a total of 1600 persons have been recovered from the disease and the present active cases stands at 615. The recovery rate is around 68 % and around 73,000 persons have been tested for Covid-19 in the state till now, he added.
The chief minister said to facilitate Covid-19 patients in the state, the total number of beds available at Covid care centres is 1289. Another 300-500 beded Covid care centre at Lamboikhongnangkhong, Imphal West, 100 beded centre at Jiribam and Kangpokpi being built will be completed soon.
Biren highlighted that around 8000 persons are being quarantined at institutional quarantine centres and around 1700 persons at community quarantine centres in the state. He further mentioned that the Cabinet also decided to recruit 100 doctors, 90 nurses and 60 multi tasking staffs to combat the contagion on daily wages for a period of six months.
