Imphal: Congress MLA of Thangmeiband Assembly Constituency demands clarification from the government if there is a separate protocol to be followed by VVIPs who return in the state by air.
“Will the government take the responsibility if community transmission begins?” The people’s representative asked.
Joykisan was speaking in a press conference held at Thangmeiband on Sunday.
Joykisan said recently four ministers went for Delhi to meet central leaders and when they returned at airport they were tested for ‘rapid antigen test’. After they were found negative in the test they were seen moving to their homes without quarantining.
Ordinary people who returned in the same airport were asked to test for COVID-19 and advised them to quarantine, he added.
“If a VIP or VVIP is infected with coronavirus, will the virus not transmit to others?” He asked.
Government needs to announce the public to clear the confusion in the protocols to be followed by the people irrespective of social status, he said.
“The protocol should be the same as the virus do not select among people to infect,” Joykisan suggested.
At present the active case of COVID-19 in the state has been increasing. Police personnels, doctors, volunteers have been infected with the virus. But the government is saying that it is local transmission but not community transmission. If one minister is infected the individual can spread the virus easily as ministers interact with various sections of people, he added.
He appreciated the government for taking various developmental steps on COVID-19 issues including establishment of consultative committee that includes MLAs in the ruling and opposition, and other experts.
However, he said, during consultative meetings some ministers failed to turn up as political issue matters.
Those ministers do not have sense of responsibility, he added.
Some MLAs and minister are focusing on renovation and construction of roads and others, if Manipur becomes a deserted place the development works will be meaningless, he said.
In the present situation they should seriously give priority to protection of health and lives of the people, he added.
He said, for Thangmeiband Assembly Constituency, admission of returnees in the community quarantine centre will be over from July 31.
He appeals the people to cooperate each other to bring back Manipur a green zone.
