Former minister of health Phungzathang Tonsing who twice served as President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee has joined National People’s Party (NPP) today.
The veteran politician who left Congress yesterday even after he was offered its ticket for the ensuing state assembly election was welcome by NPP in a function held at Classic Grande.
Welcoming Phungzathang who represented Churchandpur assembly constituency for six times, the president of NPP Conrad K. Sangma said landing of a prominent leader to NPP was adding strength to the party. There had been changes in the political scenario. NPP has a friendly understanding with the Left and Democratic Front (LDF), added Sangma.
On the occasion NPP announced its second candidates list of eight totalling to 20 candidates. Retired DGP Joykumar was announced spokesperson of the party.
Phungzathang said, “Changing of political parties by candidates is not a new matter. I left congress according to the wish of the people.” If the government has timely listened to the people of Churchandpur dead bodies would not remained at the mortuary, added the veteran leader.
Phungzathang took part in a political gathering held at Pishum leirak Ningom ground in 12- Keishamthong assembly constituency where its party candidate L. Jayantakumar who was once a congress minister in education portfolio.
