Pothashang News Service: Imphal, February 23, 2018: A water supply scheme was handed over to the villagers of Suangkuang village by Khuga Battalion under the aegis of HQ 27 Sector Assam Rifles today.
Suangkuang village is one of the remotest village of Churachandpur district and was without permanent source of water. The villagers were dependent of a seasonal nala which was four kilometers away from the village.
The water supply scheme handed over was prepared under Border Area Development Project.
HQ 27 Sector Assam Rifles besides looking after security situation in Churachandpur district is also looking after the social upliftment and development of infrastructure for the needy villagers living in the remote and inaccessible border areas of district. As a part of these efforts, the need was felt to construct a Water Supply Scheme for the Suangkunag village, as villagers had to walk for long distances on daily basis for their needs. Post identifying the requirement the water supply scheme was built to alleviate the suffering besides providing water. The water scheme will also improve hygiene and sanitation in village besides providing them more time to look after their agriculture and educational needs.
The gesture of HQ 27 Sector Assam Rifles and Khuga Battalion was appreciated by the villagers. The Army has also expressed their commitment to look for more efforts to bring more development to the village.
