60-day Tobacco Free Youth Campaign Manipur chapter launched

Imphal: Manipur governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, on Thursday launched the State Level Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 3.0 at Raj Bhavan, here.

The campaign has been organised by the National Health Mission, Manipur in association with Directorate of Health Services, under the National Tobacco Control Program.

Bhalla led the gathering in taking a pledge to abstain from the use of tobacco products.

Commissioner (Health) Sumant Singh, along with the directors of Family Welfare and IPR, attended the ceremony. Officers from several departments, including Social Welfare, Information Technology, Home, and Police, were also present.

The 60-day campaign aims to work in six objectives as – to escalate public awareness on harmful effects of tobacco; to enhance Tobacco Free Educational Institutions (ToFEI) compliance; to endeavour for Tobacco Free Villages; to enhance Enforcement of Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003 and Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act (PECA), 2019; to amplify Social Media Engagement and Capacity building.

This campaign will also be replicated in all the districts of the state, said a government statement.

The governor directed the officers to ensure that the campaign is carried out as a sustained and serious initiative aimed at eliminating the use of tobacco products from society and safeguarding the youth.

He urged the officers to contribute their best efforts to make the campaign effective and successful.
