Imphal: Veteran Manipur politician O. Joy has asked if BJP is trying to divide Manipur stating that neither the state Assembly nor the BJP leaders took action against elected Kuki MLAs who demand a separate administration for Kuki-Zo community.
“The recent visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi after 2 years and four months of the eruption of Meitei-Kuki conflict was not to bring a solution to the present unrest, but to repair the crashed Double Engine of the BJP as a mason. His visit was meaningless,” said Joy.
People were hoping that his visit would mean to bring a solution to the issue, but it did not happen, he added.
Joy was addressing a group of reporters at Congress Bhavan here on Monday.
The 10 Kuki-Zo MLAs, who include ministers urged the Prime Minister during his visit to Churachandpur to fulfill their demand for a separate administration in the form a Union Territory. But the remaining BJP MLAs asked nothing to bring a solution except welcoming the Prime Minister at Kangla, Joy said.
The Prime Minister did not utter a word in connection with the crisis and to bring an end to it. Modi visited Manipur not as a Prime Minister but as a Prime Mystry (Mason), he added.
President’s Rule, which itself is a BJP government has been imposed in Manipur. The BJP government fails to safeguard the right to life and liberty. The freedom of press is not respected, he said citing the Gwaltabi incident in which a bus ferrying journalists were asked to remove the word Manipur from the bus.
The Assembly is no more. Judiciary could not function well as there had been less than five judges in the High Court of Manipur, Joy said.
