Imphal: At least 14 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators of Manipur held a meeting ahead of the proposed visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the state on September 13.
A closed-door meeting was held at the Babupara residence of BJP MLA Kongkham Robindro.
Several key BJP MLAs attended the meeting.
MLAs Thokchom Satyabrata, Yumnam Khemchand, Thokchom Radheshyam, Khumukcham Joykishan, Okram Arunkumar, Yengkhom Radhashyam, Khongbantabam Robindro, Tongbram Robindro, N. Kebi, Lourembam Rameshor, Paonam Brojen (Wangjing), Thongam Bishwajit, Kh. Loken of NPP), S. Rajen, Md. Achabuddin and Raghumani attended the meeting.
Party insiders said the legislators discussed strategies ahead of the Prime Minister’s suspected visit and the possibility of government formation in the state.
Manipur has been under President’s Rule since February 13, following the resignation of chief minister N. Biren Singh on February 9 after a meeting with Union Home minister Amit Shah.
The meeting of the MLAs comes at the backdrop of heightened political activity in the state.
On Monday, Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata separately called on Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan, fueling speculation about efforts to form a new popular government by the end of September.
Preparations have been underway at Kangla in Imphal and Peace Ground in Churachandpur for the Prime minister’s visit, with officials directed to complete security and civic arrangements on a war footing.
A manual labour working at Kangla said they (the labouers) reamained hectic in connection with the proposed Modi’s visit.
However, officials have not announced of the Prime Minister’s visit.
Sources confirmed that Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has departed for the national capital on Tuesday.
