BJP  leaders hold key meeting ahead of PM’s visit

Imphal: BJP north east incharge Sambit Patra along with incharge BJP person in charge of Manipur Ajit Gopchade held a close door meeting with Manipur BJPians at Thambal Shanglen, BJP office in Imphal on Wednesday.

Patra and Gopchade arrived Imphal three days ahead of proposed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Manipur.

They were received at the Imphal airport by BJP Manipur unit led by its president A. Sharda Devi who denied to comment to reporters.

The meeting chaired by the two BJP national leaders was attended by 29 legislators including Speaker Th. Satyabrata and former Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh except for a BJP MLA S Kebi. Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba also attended the meeting.

Of the total 60 seats in the Manipur Legislative Assembly, BJP currently holds 32 seats, NPP has seven, JD(U) has six, Naga People’s Front (NPF) holds five, Kuki People’s Alliance (KPA) has two, and the Indian National Congress holds five, along with three independent MLAs.

Despite the NPP, JD(U), KPA, and one independent MLA withdrawing support to BJP, the BJP still maintains a majority with 43 MLAs, including the five former JD(U) MLAs who later switched to the BJP.

Presently, after the demises of one NPP MLA, of Tadubi assembly constituency, N Kayisii the state legislative assembly has 59 MLAs.

Among the total seats Kuki-Zo has 10 MLAs including 7 BJP MLAs.

The Kuki MLAs were not present in the meeting.

Another meeting will be held at Hotel Imphal along with other legislators of allied political parties.

The gathering is expected to focus on key issues, including the party’s strategy and future plans in Manipur, as well as other significant political developments with the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
