Imphal: Security forces recovered Brown Sugar with cash in Churachandpur and WY tablets (Methamphetamine) at Lilong Ushoipokpi in Thoubal district and Kyamgei Mamang Leikai in Imphal East two consecutive days and arrested five persons.
Manipur Police recovered 20 soap cases containing contraband Brown Sugar, weighing 236 grams approximately (excluding the weight of the soap cases) and a sum of Rs 3,87,100 from a house located at Songsibok Thingkangphai village under Churachandpur police station, Churachandpur district.
Investigations have established that the occupant of the house was one Chinsiathang, 52, of Tangpijol village, Singngat sub-division. Further investigations follow, said Manipur Police Control Room on Saturday.
The WY tablets were recovered on Saturday by a joint team of Manipur Police, CRPF and BSF in a drug related operation in which five persons were arrested.
They were Md. Mustakim, 39, of Lilong Ushoipokpi Tharaorok; Md. Arif, 20, of Lilong Ushoipokpi Tharaorok; Md. Ajit, 32, of Lilong Makha Leikai, Ruhima, 26, wife of Md. Ajid, of Lilong Makha Leikai; and Md. Baboy, 35, of Kyamgei Mamang Leikai.
The security forces recoverd 2.27 kg WY tablets (Methamphetamine) from Mustakim’s residence, 45 grams WY tablets from Baboy’s residence, six mobile handsets, multiple account ledgers and diaries, two vehicles used in trafficking (Duster ML05L-0490 amd Alto AS05N-7322) and 120 empty plastic containers.
Md. Mustakim is a habitual offender and has been arrested before by Assam Police in the year 2022 in Guwahati for transporting 205 soap cases of Heroin, said the police control room.
He was in Jail for two years and was released on bail in January 2025, it added.
Md Baboy is also a habitual offender he was arrested before by Assam police in the year 2020 in Guwahati for transporting 7000 WY tablets and released on bail in the year 2023, it said and added that further investigation has been taken up.
