Imphal: The Assam Rifles commemorated ‘Operation Sindoor’ as part of India’s 79th Independence Day celebrations at the historic Kangla Western Gate, with IGAR (South) Major General Ravroop Singh underscoring the nation’s military preparedness and honouring the courage of Manipur’s people.
Addressing the media, major general Singh said the event was both a celebration of Independence Day and a tribute to the recent success of ‘Operation Sindoor’.
Launched on May 7, 2025, Operation Sindoor was the Indian Armed Forces’ swift response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Targeting terrorist infrastructure deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, the mission focused on precision strikes designed to cripple militant camps and sever their networks, all while ensuring minimal harm to civilians.
“It was not just a mission it was a message to the world that the Indian Armed Forces are ready to face any eventuality, to confront any threat, and that no one can jeopardise the safety and security of our great nation,” the major general declared.
The programme featured a military band performance of traditional martial music, which the Major General described as a bridge to one of India’s “most vibrant and dynamic societies.” He noted that, despite its population of just 30 lakh, Manipur has one of the highest proportions of army officers in the Indian Armed Forces.
“To celebrate and honour the valour of our brothers from the state, we have organised this event here,” he added, inviting Imphal residents to attend the performances scheduled for August 13 and August 15.
Hundreds of commuters enjoyed the performance of the Asam Rifle band.
The celebration brought together military personnel, local dignitaries, and civilians, reflecting the state’s strong connection to India’s armed forces and the enduring spirit of Independence Day.
