Imphal: A security Coordination Committee meeting was held at the conference hall of the mini secretariat complex, Bishnupur on Wednesday, focusing on undisturbed cultivation and resettlement of Internally displaced persons.
The meeting held at the district level was chaired by deputy commissioner, Bishnupur, Pooja Elangbam.
Addressing the gathering, Elangbam highlighted the significance of agriculture for the district’s economy, stating that Bishnupur, being primarily agrarian, must ensure uninterrupted and peaceful farming activities. Flying squads comprising key stakeholders have also been formed for peaceful farming in fringe areas, she added.
There has been incidents of attacks to Meitei farmers in Bishnupur, allegedly, by armed Kuki groups.
She urged all the officers present in the meeting to respond swiftly and in coordination in the event of any untoward incidents. She appealed for regular visits to fringe areas to engage with farmers, address their grievances at the ground level, and inform the District Administration for intervention when necessary.
The deputy commissioner informed that resettlement will occur in three phases, beginning with areas where law and order have significantly improved. She called on security personnel to identify suitable locations for return and highlight areas needing enhanced security arrangements.
She also interacted with officials, including the additional superintendent of police, who provided input on potential resettlement zones.
Expressing appreciation for the collective efforts in maintaining law and order, she expressed hope that more displaced persons would be rehabilitated in the coming months, helping restore peace and normalcy in the district.
The meeting was also attended by ADM Bishnupur T. Opendro, members of the District Level Security Coordination Committee, and other concerned officials.
