Imphal: Security forces have made another ‘major recovery’ of arms, ammunition, explosives and other warlike stores in Churachandpur, Pherzawl, Kangpokpi, Chandel and Tengnoupal districts of Manipur.
Security forces comprising of Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, Army and CAPFs conducted extensive search operations in the hill districts of Manipur in the last few days.
Acting on specific intelligence regarding the presence of a large cache of arms, ammunition, and other warlike materials concealed in various locations, coordinated operations were launched simultaneously at multiple sites in the interior and suspected areas of the five districts by joint teams of the security forces, said a statement of Manipur Police on Monday.
These operations resulted in the recovery of the following arms, ammunition, explosives and other warlike stores.
The recovered weapons were eight AK Series guns, two Insas rifles, one each of SLR, sniper, M4 rifle, .22 rifle, Gren LR, Single Barrel Bolt Action rifle and shot gun, two 303 rifles, four carbines, 14 numbers of 12 Bore guns, eight 9mm pistols, five Single Barrel rifles, five SBBL, five Bolt Action rifles, 14 pistols (country made), four lathodes, 21 single bore guns, three muzzle loaded rifles, 31 pumpi, eight double barrel guns, and 13 single barrel guns.
They also recovered 39 IEDs, 13 hand-grenades, 1600 assorted ammunitions, four binoculars, 15 communication sets and one telescope.
These continued intelligence-led operations in the hill districts represent a major accomplishment for the Manipur Police, Assam Rifle, Army and other security forces in their continued mission to restore peace, uphold public order. and safeguard the lives and property of citizens, Manipur Police said.
It reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a peaceful and secure Manipur and urged he public to cooperate with the security forces and to promptly report any suspicious activity or information related to illegal arms to the nearest police station or the Central Control Room.
Senior police officials remain in close coordination with all security stakeholders to ensure that such operations continue in a sustained and focused manner, aimed at restoring normalcy, maintaining public order, and safeguarding the fives and property of all citizens, said the police statement.
On Friday, a total of 90 weapons and and 728 ammunitions were recovered in five valley districts.
Earlier, on February 27, security forces have recovered a total of 307 weapons out of which 246 were deposited by Arambai Tengol, a Meitei group. Later, on June 14 in a big weapon haul in Manipur for the second time 328 weapons and 10,600 ammunitions were also recovered. Later on July 4, 203 weapons and huge amount of ammunitions were recovered from hill districts, and 86 weapons and 974 ammunitions were also recovered from valley districts.
