Imphal: A joint team of Manipur Police and the Central Reserve Police Force seized 3.5 kilograms of Brown Sugar and unaccounted cash amounting to Rs 99,09,850 during a search operation in Kangpokpi district on Thursday.
The operation led to the arrest of four individuals, including three women. They were identified as S. Poubinah Teinamei, 31, daughter of Kapong Shakpa Teinamei; PF Adaphro, 34, wife of TK Rocky; and S. Boibina, 29, wife of Moses, all hailing from T. Khullen village in Kangpokpi district. The fourth accused was Lungdinibou Thiumei, 52, son of Mahenthui Thuimei, a resident of Khundong Khunkhaiba in Tamenglong district.
The seizure came just six days after another joint team confiscated around 15 kg of contraband drugs worth approximately Rs 76 crore near the Barak River, underscoring the scale of the ongoing narcotics trade in the state.
An official statement issued on Thursday said the latest operation was conducted based on credible intelligence inputs about narcotics being trafficked and stored in T. Khullen village, Kangpokpi district. During the search, authorities discovered 273 soap cases filled with Brown Sugar, weighing approximately 3.5 kilograms. “The seized narcotics are estimated to be worth Rs 35.6 crore in the international market.”
In addition to the drugs and large amount of unaccounted cash, the security team also recovered seven mobile phones, two vehicles a DI and a Hyundai Creta vehicles as well as various financial documents and materials suspected to be used in trafficking activities.
An FIR has been registered at the Kangpokpi police station, and further investigation is currently underway to uncover the wider network behind the trafficking operation, said the official statement.
The incident marks yet another success for Manipur’s security agencies as they intensify efforts to curb the state’s growing role in cross-border narcotics smuggling, it added.
