Imphal: Manipur governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, chaired a review meeting on Wednesday at Raj Bhavan, here, to assess the condition of the prison infrastructure and administration across the state.
The meeting was attended by the chief secretary, DGP, DG of Prisons, IG of Prisons, and other senior officials.
During the meeting, IG Prisons highlighted the current state of jails in Manipur, the deteriorating infrastructure of the two main functional jails in the state and the challenges faced by six temporary jails located across various districts.
The IG brought to the governor’s attention the issue of pending staff recruitments.
The governor advised a number of measures to address the infrastructural and administrative shortcomings. He assured for timely intervention and collaborative efforts among concerned departments to ensure better conditions, security, and efficiency within the prison system. He also directed the officials that necessary steps should be taken to resolve the existing challenges and strengthen the prison infrastructure.
