Imphal: Security forces in Manipur have seized large quantities of sophisticated arms, ammunition, and five improvised rockets from Churachandpur, Imphal East and Kangpokpi districts, on Monday.

Two underground cadres were arrested in separate operations.

A combined team of Manipur Police and central security forces conducted a search operation across the general hill areas from Thangjing Hill in Loilamkot village to Nalon village under Churachandpur police station, Churachandpur district.

The team seized five improvised rockets (two measuring 8 feet and three measuring 5 feet), one AK rifle with a magazine, one 12-bore single-barrel rifle, two .303 rifles with magazines, five country-made mortar bombs, four live AK rifle rounds, one country-made hand grenade, and other miscellaneous items.

Another large cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from Keirao Wangkhem village and adjoining areas near the foothills of the Ngariyan hill range under Irilbung police station, Imphal East district. The arms included one LMG (.303) with magazine, one .303 sniper rifle with magazine, one SLR rifle with two magazines, one 12-bore single-barrel gun, two 9mm pistols with magazines, five SMG carbine magazines, one INSAS LMG magazine, three hand grenades (36-type) with arming rings, four alum explosives, one .303 LMG barrel, 55 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, 39 rounds of .303 live ammunition, two rounds of 12-bore live ammunition, 30 rounds of 5.56 x 30mm live ammunition, five rounds of 9mm live ammunition, two rounds of .32 live ammunition, one tear smoke grenade, one tear gas gun, one stun grenade, 10 anti-riot shells, six tube launchers, and three empty 51 mortar shell covers.

Security forces recovered more weapons from the area between N. Boljang and Zero Point of Kangpokpi district. The recovered items included one 5.56mm INSAS rifle with magazine, one .22 pistol with two magazines, one bolt-action rifle, one short-range projectile launcher, five improvised mortars, five “Pull Mech” rifles, and ten mortar bombs.

Two underground cadres belonging to banned outfits—the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) and the United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) were arrested from different locations in Imphal East district.

According to police, the arrested individuals were allegedly involved in extortion activities targeting the general public, private schools, and colleges.
