Imphal: Commemorating nine cadres of the banned underground group Revolutionary People’s Front–People’s Liberation Army (RPF–PLA) who were killed in a gunfight with Indian security forces on April 13, 1982, at Kodompokpi, Imphal West, family, relatives and people paid tribute at the memorial site Athoubasingi Khubham, Cheiraoching, here on Sunday.

The annual remembrance programme was participated by people from different communities.

The memorial site was heavily secured by Manipur Police to prevent any untoward incidents, with every individual being verified at the foothills of Cheiraoching.

Khundrakpam Medha, daughter of late Khundrakpam Rajendra one of the slained cadres, said, “I appreciate all individuals who came to take part in the programme. I also thank the Manipur Police and other security forces for ensuring security, as well as the Red Cross Society for being on standby for any medical emergencies.”

Justice Guneshor Sharma had issued an order allowing the floral tribute ceremony to be held at Cheiraoching from 6 am to 5 pm.

The nine RPF-PLA cadres killed in the 1982 encounter were Moirangthem Premkumar from Tera Sapam Leirak, Khundrakpam Chaoba alias Rajendra from Kwakeithel Moirang Purel, Thoudam Kunjabihari from Nameirakpam Leikai, Thoudam Loken from Nameirakpam Leikai, Naorem Rajen from Naorem Leikai, Maibam Paka alias Chaothoi from Heirok Part-II, Litan Makhong, Sorokhaibam Kameshor from Heibongpokpi Mayai Leikai, R.K. Khoirumba alias Gyane and Dilip from Moreh Heinou Makhong.
