Imphal: A gunfight broke out between Manipur Police personnel and cadres of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group), KCP-PWG, on Sunday.
Security forces seized arms and ammunition and dismantled a suspected militant camp.
The firing incident began around 4 am when 12 teams of Thoubal district police launched a search operation in the forested area of Heirok Part-III, Uyok Hills.
During the operation, armed miscreants suspected to be cadres of proscribed outfit KCP-PWG opened fire on the police team. The police retaliated. The exchange of gunfire lasted for about two hours, said police.
The militants eventually fled the area after being overpowered by the police. A large makeshift camp, believed to have served as a shelter for the group, was destroyed.
The security forces recovered items including g one SLR, one 12-bore single-barrel gun, one LMG magazine, twenty-one rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, explosives, combat gear, and three vehicles—two unregistered Gypsys and one Tata Safari bearing registration number MN07L 1464.
