Imphal: In an incident linked to a land dispute, two Naga village leaders were allegedly abducted and allegedly assaulted by Kuki militants in Konsakhul village, Kangpokpi district, under the jurisdiction of Leimakhong Police station on Saturday.

The incident occurred around 12:15 pm when a group of approximately 300 suspected Kuki individuals, reportedly armed, stormed Konsakhul, a Naga-majority village. They allegedly abducted the village chief, 55-year-old Aimson Abonmai, and village chairman, 45-year-old D. Adam.

The two victims were later found critically injured at a nearby paddy field. Police reported that the assailants abandoned them after physically assaulting them. That were immediately rushed to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, here.

Condemning the attack, Athon Gangmei, vice-chairman of the Rongmei Naga Council, a Naga body, told reporters that the Naga community strongly denounces the alleged abduction and brutal assault of its leaders.

On January 7, a Naga Liangmei woman was allegedly assaulted by suspected Kuki militants while working on her farm in Konsakhul village, also reportedly over a land dispute.

The situation remained tense as villagers seeked assurances for their safety and justice for the victims.
