Imphal: Eta-North East Women Network distributed the ‘Women of Substance’ Award 2025 during an observation of International Women’s Day held under the theme “Acceleration Action” on Saturday at Hotel Classic Grande, here.

MLA Ranjan emphasized that for long-term peace to prevail in the state, women must achieve economic independence. He praised Eta’s initiatives in providing quality education and legal support, highlighting their significant role in societal progress. He called for collective support from society to strengthen these efforts.

Ranjan expressed optimism about the gradual return of normalcy in the state, which has faced turmoil for over 21 months. He urged civil society organizations and public representatives to work together on a unified platform to expedite the peace restoration process.

AMKIL president Lourembam Nganbi lamented on the persistent issue of gender discrimination worldwide.

She issued a stern warning against further destruction of sacred sites like those dedicated to Sanamahi, Ema Imoinu, and freedom fighters. She attributed recent instances of destruction to individuals allegedly influenced by the Kuki Narco-Terrorists and urged the community to uphold cultural and spiritual values.

Awardees of Women of Substance Award 2025 are Lifetime Achiever’s Award: Padma Shri awardee Heisnam Sabitri; Exemplary Service in Social Work Award: Souvenir Duidang; Inspirational Women’s Achiever Award: Laibi Phanjoubam; Changemaker in Education Award: Principal Oinam Geetarani, Recent Higher Secondary School, Sagoltongba; Sports Achiever Award: Sorokhaibam Bindyarani; Exemplary Service in Healthcare Award: Dr. Bhoomika Wairokpam; Amazing Mother’s Award: Sapam Geeta (Internally Displaced Person); Entrepreneur of the Year Award: Yangmila Zimik; Literary Achiever’s Award: Dr. Susma Sharma Gurumayum; Excellence in Journalism Award: Babie Shirin, Imphal Free Press; Extraordinary Women’s Achiever Award: Gerinda Loitongbam and Young Achiever’s Award: Korounganbi Kangjam.

As part of the programme, various items crafted by internally displaced persons from relief camps were showcased. A documentary film produced by Eta, highlighting the resilience and contributions of women, was screened.
