Imphal: Government of India has declared the entire state of Manipur, except for 13 police stations of five districts, as Disturbed Area’ on Sunday.
The ministry of Home Affairs made the declaration stating that ‘the central government after review of the law and order situation In the State of Manipur, in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3 of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 (28 of 1958) declares the entire state of Manipur, excluding the areas falling under the jurisdiction of 13 police stations of five districts, as ‘disturbed area’ for a period of six months with effect from April 1, 2025, unless withdrawn earlier’.
The 13 excluded jurisdiction were areas covered by Imphal police station, Lamphel police station, City police station, Singjamei police station, Patsoi police station and Wangoi police station in Imphal West district; Porompat police station, Heingang police station and Irilbung police station in Imphal East district; Thoubal police station in Thoubal district; Bishnupur police station and Nambol police station in Bishnupur district; and Kakching police station in Kakching district.
Manipur has been under President’s Rule and kept under Suspended Animation following the resignation of chief minister N. Biren Singh in February.
Manipur has been on boil since Meitei-Kuki conflict erupted on May 3, 2023.
Security forces have been taking up search operations and continued to arrest militants, mainly in valley districts.
Accoding to a police statement released on Sunday, security forces arrested two cadres of KCP (PWG), from Bishnupur district and Jiribam district on Sunday and Monday respectively.
A statement released release on Saturday mentioned arrests of three militants in valley districts.
