Manipur Police recieves surrendered weapons following governor’s appeal

Imphal: Huge cache of arms, ammunitions, and other combat materials were surrendered to Manipur Police on Friday in response to governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla’s appeal to youths hand over illegal weapons within a week.

The governor appealed all communities in Manipur to surrender looted arms and illegally held weapons, assuring that no punitive action would be taken against those who voluntarily complied. He warned of strict measures against non-compliance after the weak deadline.

In a statement issued on Friday, Manipur Police said one individual (identity undisclosed) voluntarily surrendered weapons and combat gear to Kakching district police. The items handed over included one .303 rifle with one magazine, thirteen rounds of .303 ammunition, four bulletproof vests, five bulletproof plates, four helmets.

One looted tear gas gun was surrendered at Saparmeina police station, Kangpokpi district.

Security forces handed over weapons and other items to Kakching police station (recovered from Kakching Wairi area). They were one 5.56 mm Insas rifle, one 5.6 mm caliber rifle, one 12 Bore rifle, one 12 Bore Short gun, one of 9 mm pistol, one Air pistol, one 303 Rifle, four 12 Bore rifles (single barrel), one 12 Bore Water Cannon, one 36 hand grenade, 27 9mm live rounds, 92 numbers of 7.62 mm AK 47 live rounds, 40 numbers of 7.62 mm CTN, 45 numbers of 5.56 mm Insas five rounds, 13 numbers of Insas live rounds 20 KF (small live rounds), 65 numbers of 303 live rounds, 30 numbers of 12 Bore live cartridges, two 5.56 Insas empty  agazine, one . 303 empty magazine, one 9mm pistol magazine (Made in China), two 303 rifle telescope sight, one bipod (small), three 9mm FCC, five 303 Bore FCC, four 7.62 mm CTN FCC, two 7.62 mm AK FCC, four 5.56 mm Insas FCC, two Tear Smoke shells, 13 numbers of Motorola Set (small size), nine Motorola charging adapter, one Bayonet, 28 numbers of bullet proof jackets, 38 bullet proof plates, one helmet, one Khukri, one CPU, two carry black carry bags, one . 45 Caliber live rounds and Indian currency of Rs 2,50,000.
