Imphal: Congress Legislative Party leader and former chief minister of Manipur Okram Ibobi Singh has sought governor’s advice over alleged threats made by chief minister N. Biren Singh to House members over a potential no-confidence motion.

The 7th session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly was scheduled to begin on February 10.

Talking to reporters on Monday in front of the Raj Bhawan, here, Ibobi said an interaction programme held on January 14 at the BJP office, Imphal. In the event, Biren allegedly threatened House members against moving a no-confidence motion on the assembly floor.

“Biren mentioned that any member who moves a no-confidence motion will not be able to do so. If they attempt for it, they cannot stay in their house as people will rush to them,” said Ibobi.

“He should not say such matters. We will fully exercise our right which is given by the Constitution.”

Congress MLAs submitted memorandum to the Constitutional head of the state, governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla insisting to advise the concerned authorities to act in accordance with the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business framed under the Constitution of India, during the forthcoming Assembly Session.

If any issue arise during the Assembly session, it is the sole responsibility of the state government,  Ibobi said.
